You will be aware that your child has been studying Philosophy, Religion and Ethics for one hour a week as part of their core curriculum. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the exam they would have taken this summer has been cancelled. After careful consideration we have made the decision to enter the current Year 10 cohort to be awarded grades this year based on predictions from teachers. Teachers will have looked at a range of evidence about student performance and will make predictions based on what they believe the student would have achieved if they had taken the exam. This means that students will not need to be entered for an exam in Year 11.
We are aware that some students may still want an opportunity to sit the exam and we are happy to be able to provide this in the summer of 2021. However, this will be an opt-in opportunity and only necessary if a student wants to improve their grade and/or have the experience of the exam.
We will be in touch with details of when and how the students will be informed of their grades. Please do not contact teachers to enquire about individual grades as we are unable to share this information.
Year 10s studying for the option PRE qualification (several lessons a week) will still sit their exams in the summer of Year 11 as normal.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Year 10 for their hard work and dedication in this subject over the past two years.
