Year 11 Parent Information

Year 11 Parent Information

I would like to take this opportunity to communicate a few key messages as Year 11 are approaching the final stages of their exam preparation. The Year 11 exam timetable can be found at the bottom of this page.

Upcoming Events

Year 11 Photos: Wed 20 March 2024 - The first event on the horizon is the Year 11 photographs on Wednesday 20 March, creating a lasting memory of a student’s journey here with us at the Redhill Academy.

Easter Revision: Tue/Wed 02-03 April 2024 - Secondly, just a reminder that Easter revision sessions are running on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 April. There is a fabulous offer that will really kickstart revision at the start of the holidays. All of the details and the link to sign up are on class charts.

Formal Exams: 09 May 2024 – 26 June 2024 - The formal examination period is between 9 May and 26 June. There are contingency sessions within the Summer 2024 exam timetable – the afternoon of 6 June and 13 June and the full day of 26 June. Students need to stay available on all three dates even if they do not have an exam. These dates have been set by the exam boards in case of any unforeseen circumstances. With formal exams it is not possible to reschedule exams due to any personal circumstances as this is a national timetable with all schools around the country following the same schedule to ensure quality assurance. Attendance is therefore crucial throughout this period.

Booster Sessions - We have taken on board feedback from students regarding booster sessions and these will run before the exams. These will be shorter 10-minute sessions to take the opportunity to remind students of key strategy in approaching papers. The morning boosters will also have breakfast items available for any students who would like to take advantage of this.

Remaining Lessons - Between now and the first exam, teachers are mapping out every remaining lesson. Our teachers plan every lesson carefully to ensure that challenging content is revisited and common misconceptions that are highlighted by examiners are a key focus of remaining lessons. Attendance is always important but please, in these final stages, it is more important than ever to ensure that students do not miss any of the final examination preparation sessions.

Leaving Date: Wed 12 June 2024 - The final leaving date will be Wednesday 12 June. There will be a leavers assembly period 3 on this day. After this date students are only required to attend school for their remaining exams. It is important that full school uniform is maintained until the final exam but once that date has passed, we would welcome any uniform that could be donated. We work in partnership with the Children’s Society to supply our community with used school uniforms.

Year 11 Prom: Fri 28 June 2024 - After the exams draw to close, we know that students will then be turning their attention to the prom. This is on Friday 28 June, and we are delighted to see more than 170 students already signed up. The deadline has passed but if anyone is still wishing to attend then do speak with your Head of House.

GCSE Results Day: Thu 22 Aug 2024 - GCSE results day this year will be Thursday 22 August. Further information will follow but we wanted to you put the date in your diaries as we are very much looking forward to sharing this special day with our students and offer guidance in the next stages of their educational journey.

May I take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for their support throughout this challenging year for our Y11 students. In the remaining months we look forward to guiding and encouraging students through these final stages before the celebration events in the summer months.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Hardy
